The number of tourists visiting Japan in July 2023 reached 2.32 million, approaching 80% of the levels seen in July 2019. Welcome to Japan!
Summary
The number of foreign visitors in July was 2,320,600, representing 77.6% of the July 2019 figures.
This is a significant increase of approximately 12% from the previous month when the numbers surpassed 2 million.
Excluding China, where travel restrictions to Japan have continued, the total number is actually 103.4% of the July 2019 figures, surpassing the levels seen before the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Regionally Analysis
Breaking it down regionally, there has been an increase in visitors from East Asian countries, especially from South Korea.
Additionally, in the Europe, North America, Australia, and Middle East regions, particularly from the United States and Canada, the figures exceeded those of July 2019.
This contributed to the overall rise in the number of visitors.
Regarding international regular flights, as of the summer schedule in 2023, the number of operating flights has recovered to about 60% of the levels before the pandemic.
Following this, there has been a continued increase and resumption of flights, especially focusing on East Asia.
